Welcome to ZARAGOZA
an extra service of European City Guide / ECG
eurocityguide.com - eurocityguide.com

Information about ZARAGOZA Zaragoza was founded 2000 years ago by the Romans, when they conquered Spain. It keeps the history of all the different races that lived and contributed to the development of the city, the Iberus, Romans, Arabs, and Jewish. The city has changed its name during the course of history being called Salduie, Caesaraugusta, Saraqusta and finally Zaragoza. Zaragoza can be divided into three areas of interest: the historic centre, the Ensanche and boulevards, and the University-Delicias area. Zaragoza in the year 2000 is a modern European city, which spreads around both sides of the river Ebro; more than half of its population works in the service sector, while industrial production is localised in industrial areas in the periphery of the city. Cinemas, museums, theatres and shopping centres are distributed around the centre of a city whose growth is giving rise to large residential areas far from the city centre. The "Zaragozanos" spend a good share of their time in the streets, always lively, in bars, outdoor cafés and cinemas. The student population makes night life more vivacious, especially during the weekends, when Zaragoza also welcomes many visitors. Zaragoza is known to be a "passing through" city, however all the visitors that make a halt here discover a rich and interesting city.
